Summer Kids' Arts Camp!
At the Arts Center from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Workshops are $10 per child per class.
Materials will be provided unless otherwise noted.

July 12: Illuminated Paper Vessels
With Carol Marie Vossler

This workshop will teach the history of paper lanterns, papermaking, types of paper and how lanterns are still used today. Participants will learn the basic techniques of building an armature, folding and then adhering paper onto the armature. These hand-crafted lanterns will adorn all year long. Safe to use indoors or outside (weather permitting)! All paper, lights, armature materials and stamp making tools will be provided.


July 19:
Ceramic Pinch Pots & Coil Pots

With Lauren Walker

Participants will learn the basics of making simple pinch pots and coil pots using hand building techniques with air dry clay, then decorate their pots with acrylic paints.

 

July 26: Ceramic Toad & Fairy Houses
With Lauren Walker

Design a miniature house for a frog or a fairy! Participants will make their creation from air dry clay using the slab technique, then paint, decorate, and glaze their houses.

 

August 3: Theatre Fun!
Instructor(s) TBA

Actors from our ADK LAKES Theatre Festival will work with participants to hone their theatrical skills – including characterization, stage movement, and vocal projection – playing fun theatre games and putting on a show! Suitable for age 7 and up.

 

August 9: Creepy Crawly Friends
With Lauren Walker

Drawing bugs, beetles, and other insects are a super fun way to learn about shapes! Participants will create bugs using simple shapes and use markers, colored pencils and oil pastel blending techniques to create colorful bright beetles.

 

August 16: Painted Paper Butterflies
With Lauren Walker

Creating butterflies with symmetry is fun and creative! Using the ‘blotto’ paint technique, children will make adorable hanging painted paper butterflies.

 

August 23: Mosaic Lizards
With Lauren Walker

This project is inspired by the artist Antonio Gaudi and Park Guell in Barcelona, which has many examples of brightly colored mosaic animals. Children will use a combination of paint, clay, sequins, and beads to create their unique and colorful lizards!
