The AC’s Winter Benefit for the Arts at Minnowbrook Conference Center!
The Arts Center needs your help! Keep this crucial Adirondack institution alive by attending the Arts Center’s Winter Benefit for the Arts at Minnowbrook Conference Center. The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts pro-vides first rate programs, workshops, and performances across the region, but they cannot do so without your help. By attending the benefit and donating what you can, the AC can produce amazing programs like Shake-speare in the Adirondack Park, An Adirondack Christmas Carol, My Adirondack Life Documentary, and bring talented artists to the region like Catie Curtis, Tanglefoot and so much more. But they can’t do it alone. It is through the support of their members, donors, volunteers and community that makes the Arts Center thrive. If we can strengthen the presence of the arts in our region, then we can enrich the lives of all of us who live here.

So come and support the arts with a complete weekend of events Saturday, March 13th from 6:00 - 10:00 pm at the enchanting 28 acre retreat, Minnowbrook Conference Center. Enjoy a beautiful evening at this famous camp, complete with silent auction, delicious cocktail party and once again, overnight reservations for the evening.

#3. SAGAMORE & SAIL PLUS NORTHWOODS INN PACKAGE: Mark Twain coined the phrase "gilded age" for the turn of the 19th century. It was a time when vast fortunes were made in America by the Captains of Industry who built railroads, manufactured steel and established Wall Street. For these wealthy entrepreneurs- men like Vanderbilt, Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Collis P. Huntington- fabulous wilderness estates were built in the heart of the Adirondacks so these American aristocrats could live in luxury in the most remote wilderness. Take the Gilded Age Heritage Tour and step back in time to an era when the Vanderbilts, Morgans, Carnegies and other Captains of Industry "vacated" the stifling heat of New York City to "vacation" in their sumptuous Adirondack Camps, pampered by all the comforts of home and indulging in the "illusion of roughing it." Great Camp Sagamore, a National Historic Landmark and the only Great Camp open to the public on a daily basis, offers guided tours daily from June 1 through Columbus Day. Tour the Main Lodge, the lakeside dining room, the 1914 bowling alley, the Playhouse, the Wigwam, Alfred's and Gloria's cottages, the blacksmith's shop, the barn, stables and carriage house. Marvel at the 26 fireplaces, each featuring a different design. You'll marvel at the rustic luxury enjoyed by the Vanderbilt family and the royal treatment received by visitors to Sagamore Lodge, as visualized by Durant. Imagine being one of 75 guests invited by Mrs. Vanderbilt for Christmas dinner, served by liveried British servants and cooked by a chef brought in from Del-monico's. Other luxurious amenities guests enjoyed as early as 1914 were flush toilets, a sewer system, hot and cold running water and electricity. There were always guides on staff to lead the fishing and hunting expeditions in ponds and preserves which were stocked for success. Besides hunting and fishing, guests were entertained with ping-pong, billiards and roulette, croquette, tennis and bowling. Even a chess expert was on staff to provide a challenging partner! Truly, the residents of Sa-gamore Lodge were the greatest hosts and entertainers in the Adirondacks! www.greatcampsagamore.org

The W.W. Durant, cruising on Raquette Lake's 99 miles of shoreline, captures the ambience of an opulent, by-gone era by surrounding guests with wainscoting, stained and etched glass, gleaming brass, rich carpeting and polished oak, while, at the same time, offering the convenience and comfort of modern ameni-ties. Begin your dinner cruise with a cocktail on the open upper deck savoring the breathtaking scenery and fascinating historic commentary given by Captain Dean. Dinner begins with a homemade soup, followed by green salad dressed with chef-made dressings. Next, enjoy one of five entree selections accompanied by a bottle of wine. Dessert and coffee complete this epicurean experience planned and executed by CIA graduate Chef Jim Pohl and our trained staff. www.raquettelakenavigation.com

This perfect day ends with restful repose at North Woods Inn, situated high on a bluff overlooking Fourth Lake on the Fulton Chain. Your hotel component of this package includes a room with jazcuzzi overlooking Fourth Lake and breakfast for two the next morning. "Beautiful, lush scenery with that classic American look, in a comfortable and serene setting. It's somewhat low-key and not fancy in any way, but that's exactly its appeal to me. Great views of the lake and convenient boat docks. I love getting up early to sit on the deck with coffee to watch the mist rise off the lake." www.northwoodsendresort.com
